Question : Everyone keeps asking me about my relationship status and nobody believes when I tell them that I’m single. So how can I prove them that I am single or any other way so they all cannot make any rumour according to my issue in my whole area. Teentalker , 16-year-old
Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns.
It can get really annoying and irritating when your peers try really hard to pair you up with someone even though, in reality, you are quite fine being single and would like to keep your status that way, for sometime, atleast.
Given the era, you’re growing up in, the pressure to hookup and have a partner can be tremendous and so a lot of your peers might find themselves getting into a relationship, not necessarily because they have feelings for the other person, but just to look ‘cool’ and fit into their friends’ circle. It takes a lot of courage to stand by what you believe in and congratulations to you for doing that! This quality of yours will take you far ahead in life!
Now,coming back to how to deal with this whole peer pressure, well, if despite explaining to people repeatedly, that you are single, if nobody is ready to believe it, then maybe it’s time to stop explaining yourself to others and do your own thing! Be yourself and do what you believe in! Surround yourself with people who share values similar to yours and who will truly respect you for the person you are! To get a better understanding of the whole thing, please read the article on ‘ The good side of peer pressure’.
Hope this helps, if you have any other query do connect online for chat between 11am-8pm or drop us an offline message.
