Dear Teentalker,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
I completely understand that adjusting to a new and unfamiliar class can get tough for you. But remember there is nothing to fear. There are different ways to create a connect and bond with your new classmates.
First let’s understand that change is something we all go through at different phases of life. So nothing is permanent accept change. Once we accept the change it becomes easier to deal with it. During school they have a rule to shuffle children every year because they want to prepare young minds to deal with change and accept it. Because by staying with the same set of friends we get into our comfort zone.
Let’s look at ways in which we can make new friends and adjust to the change well.
- Try to talk to your classmates at lunch time : Lunch time is the time when the entire class is together having meals and more free. A great way to get comfortable with your new classmates is initiating a conversation and getting to know them better.
- Helping someone is a great way to start a friendship : Helping someone or sharing is a kind gesture. Being kind and considerate is a great way to make the other person feel comfortable and connect with you.
- Spend more time with your new classmates: Time is an important factor to create a connect with new friends. In the beginning you need to make some efforts towards creating a new friendship but soon you will be able to figure out people you enjoyed meet and people who share the same interest and then it will be easy to form a new group.
The above mentioned techniques are helpful to make new friends. But also remember that your old friends are also around may be not in the same class but you can always meet them during common sessions or lunch breaks. You are not completely in an unfamiliar atmosphere so relax.
Remember you are just increasing the number of friends you have by making new ones. The old ones are still with you.
