The festival of lights is here.
All of us have a different definition linked to the festival. Some enjoy card parties, others like to go on a holiday , some go to religious places while still others just stay home and enjoy family time and make their favorite delicacies.
Jesus once said ” it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Can we think of a different way to celebrate Diwali.
How about bringing a smile on the faces of the underprivileged kids or the less fortunate families. Also spending time with the differently abled kids and adults would be a great idea.
If all of us put in our little bit soon we will spread miles and miles of smiles because life is worthwhile only when people smile.
Joy of giving is not just about materialistic things but about words of kindness, time and service.
Importance of Joy of giving :
- When we give something to someone it generates reactions in our brains that makes us feel happier.
- Expressing unconditional gratitude
- Giving makes us physically healthy
- Our children also learn the importance of giving over taking.
- We develop an attitude of gratitude towards the things God has blessed us with when we go and meet the poor and underprivileged kids and their families.
- By helping the poor and the weak we experience a lot of spiritual benefits also.
What can we give
Intangible things : Time is a very important factor which cannot be replaced. Just going and spending time with the underprivileged children or devoting quality time at an old age home is a good way to make them smile. This Diwali, be a light for their lives.
Services : If you are a qualified doctor, teacher , counselor provide your services free of cost to the needy and underprivileged families. If you are a teacher, give free tuition to the children, If you are a doctor, put up free health checkup camps. A counselor can go and talk to the people at the old age home to help them battle with their loneliness.
Diwali sweets and gifts : We always send gift hampers to our near and dear ones who can anyways afford to enjoy and buy the things desired. Just imagine if we make a change in our thinking and go and distribute gifts, clothes and sweets in the slum area? The smiles on the faces of those children and the spark in their eyes will be something just beyond imagination.
So always remember a heart that gives to others is important to build a happy and peaceful society.
