Thanks for reaching out and sharing your concerns. I can totally understand what you are going through.
Big ego usually produces negative outcome both to relationships with people and work results when accompanied with habits produced by bad ego. Learning to control ego means to behave adequately when confronted with conflicting opinions, acknowledge other standpoints with respect, maintain healthy communication habits without attack or defense, and eventually sustain a high level of motivation and engagement toward goals.
Every human being has different values and beliefs, attitudes and norms. There is no formula to heal troubled relationships or improve communication manners. However, some general behavioral habits help to keep the big ego under control. Some expert tips to drop off your ego:
1. Practice forgiveness & letting go: Accept, let go and keep moving forward. Forgiveness will open the windows to your soul, and remove the negativity to allow room for new happiness.
2. Practice honesty and being open: Learn to say no to the things that don’t add value in you’re life, and open your arms and run towards the things that do. Honesty provides us unconditional freedom to be connected with ourselves instead of trying to be something that we’re not.
3. Surrender your need for control: Break the fears and trust life! Don’t be scare to love. Take risks. Be curious. Explore. Do what makes you happy. Try to do every day something that scares you and you’ll start to feel happiness in the small things.
4.Practice gratitude: Take 5 minutes everyday to think about all the people, experiences, lessons and mistakes you are thankful for. Drop your ego! You have nothing to lose here, but a whole life to win.
5. Solution over problem: Something that seems logical to one person doesn’t necessarily mean it’s logical to others. Disagreements should bring us a new perspective, move us closer to the solution, clear up misunderstandings, and not create another problem or conflict amongst others.
Ego is a natural state of human being and not a bad thing at all. We can’t change what we naturally are. So, instead of trying to suppress it, start using it to your advantage. Become aware of the differences between good and bad ego and what outcome to expect of each.
